QB Koniuck prepares for the future (VIDEO)

Sisler Spartans Tyler Koniuck works hard in order to give himself the best options.

Tyler Koniuck began his football career at 8 years old with the North Winnipeg Nomads (Manitoba Minor Football Association). Tyler suited up for the Nomads for 5 seasons (2008-2013), from Terminators to Bantam. In 2012 he was selected as Offensive MVP and Team MVP in 2013.

In grade 9, Tyler joined the Sisler Spartan’s (Winnipeg High School Football League) junior varsity team and was named Offensive MVP for his school and was selected for the WHSFL’s All-Star Team. Koniuck was chosen as the U16 provincial team starting quarterback in his grade 10 year. He was named Team MVP after winning the junior varsity championship and made the WHSFL’s All-Star Team again. In 2015 Tyler earned a spot on Recruit Ready’s 7 on 7 team and competed against the best football players in the Mid-Western United States.

A big moment on the gridiron for Tyler was when he won the junior varsity championship for Sisler. He mentioned, “My most memorable moment was the Junior Varsity championship, not only was this my first championship, but also for Sisler High School JV program.”

The most influential people to Tyler have been his supportive parents and brother, who is also a great football player.

In football, Tyler tries to learn something from all of his coaches. “For Football, I try to learn something from all of my coaches from Nomads, U16 Manitoba, Sisler, and Recruit Ready,” explained Koniuck.

Tyler is constantly pushing himself to be better. His latest 40 yard dash in August was 4.5 seconds. Tyler said, “While I’ve played Quarterback for many years I acknowledge that to get to the next level I need to excel at other positions to take full advantage of my speed and to be known as a player that can compete at any skill position on the field.”

At this moment Tyler’s future plans are to continue to focus on football, and study in kinesiology and business. He is preparing for the PSAT’s in the spring as well.

In terms of recruitment, Tyler has attended various combines north and south of the border, particularly University of Minnesota and University of North Dakota.

Aside from team practice, Tyler’s offseason training consists of ‘2 a days’ starting at 6:00 am involving speed work and position skills at Recruit Ready, and weight training after school.

As a grade 11 student, Koniuck says he is always working on improving and looking forward to his options in the near future.
