QB Boucetta loves the pressure of his position

Most people would shy away from pressure of any type. Not quarterback, Jade Boucetta, who says that it is this ‘pressure’ makes him love his position.

You’re the only player who gets the ball every play on offense. If one thing goes wrong, the coaches look immediately at you. It takes a lot of discipline and responsibility to be a good quarterback,” Boucetta said.

At 5-foot-11 and 163-pounds, this young pivot has only been playing for four years. With his graduating class being 2020, he already exhibits knife-like focus and knows exactly what he is going for.

“To me, football can help me get to a good university and is something I am very passionate about,” he explained. “My main goal is to play at the division 1 level and my dream is to go professional.”

In 2016, he completed attempted 161 passes – completing 70 of them for 1070 yards along with 180 yards rushing and 10 total touchdowns with the Selwyn House Gryphons in Montreal, but will be joining the IMG Academy Ascenders down South for the 2017 season.

I am really looking forward to the exposure I’ll be getting down there and how I compare to the American quarterbacks being the only Canadian quarterback in the league and probably the whole state,” Boucetta said. “Going down there was an opportunity I could never say no to, and I’m very excited for the future.”

It’s a tough road for any player to make it down South, not to say that plenty before him haven’t gone and been successful, being a Canadian quarterback can be a challenge, though, but not impossible.

I think I will match up just fine. I know I’m a good quarterback and I’m up for any challenge that’s given to me. Just take it day by day, and work your hardest,” replied Boucetta when I asked him about this.

I want to show that there is a lot of potential in Canadian football players. Being the only Canadian quarterback there, I want to show them that I can sling the rock just as good as these other guys, if not better,” he said.

You only have to look as far as his parents and coach, Matthew Addona, to see why his is so confident.

“My parents make a ton of sacrifices to allow me to play the game and all they want is to see me happy and reach my goals. They have helped me a lot throughout my football career,” he said. “Coach Addona has been a mentor of mine ever since I was in the seventh grade and I’ve been working with him ever since.”

Looking outside of his immediate support network, Boucetta has tried to model his game after NFL Indianapolis Colts quarterback, Andrew Luck.

He’s one of my favorite quarterbacks and has great success in the NFL. He also went to Stanford which is my favorite NCAA team to watch.”

With the his imminent departure looming to IMG, Boucetta feels that this is exactly the right decision for him. He says that going early will help him to get a start on getting as much exposure as he can early on and get his name known to college scouts.

Recruitment for this young quarterback hasn’t intensified yet, for obvious reasons, however, he plans on attending more university camps and combines in order to get the ball rolling and keep it rolling.

Going down South and putting your talents and skill “out there” isn’t unheard of. We just saw another ninth grader get their first NCAA offer this past week. He, too, is a Canadian quarterback. With more and more players wanting to increase their exposure and taking matters into their own hands, if they have the talent, resources, and support to do it – well then, why not?

At the end of the day, it’s all about the kids and how far those around them can help them reach their fullest potential. Boucetta is going for it and looking forward to the process of it all.
