Dayton Black started his career with the Westman Youth Football Association (WYFA) in Brandon Manitoba. During his time in the WYFA, Dayton suited up for the Westman Wolverines. Black’s team was based in Brandon but traveled to Winnipeg every weekend except for a few homes games.

Currently, Dayton is attending Neelin High School and playing for their team, the Neelin Spartans of the Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL).  The Spartans also travel to Winnipeg as part of the WHSFL’s Currie Division.

Awards that Dayton has received are: WHSFL Bowl Champion and MVP, Team Rookie of the Year, Team MVP and Offence MVP.

Last season was memorable for Black because his team re-wrote history.

“Winning the WHSFL bowl, because we were the first time to win from Brandon since 1987,” said Dayton.

Dayton looks up to his parents, as well as Coach Cullen from his high school team.

“My parents Shane and Allana Black, coach Cullen my high school coach,” added Dayton.  “They are always willing to help me with whatever I need.”

When he’s done high school and looking to further his education, Black is looking into business management.

Dayton is heading into his grade 11 campaign with the Spartans. He says recruitment is all just starting to pick up, and he’s slowly talking to more and more schools.

For his training regimen, Dayton works out on his own, and goes to camps when he can. Black also trained with Team Manitoba since February for the Canada Cup.

While he was with Team Manitoba Gold at the Canada Cup, Dayton and his team earned fifth place with a victory over Nova Scotia. Black scored the winning touchdown on a quarterback sneak, and his team won 20-14.

In order to become a better football player for next season, Dayton has set goals for himself.

“I will become a smarter player, get stronger and faster and become a better leader,” says Dayton.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
