SIR FREDERICK BANTING BRONCOS (TVRAA – LONDON, ONTARIO):

This fall, Sir Frederick Banting Broncos of the Thames Valley Regional Athletic Association (TVRAA) is a character team and hopes that translates into success on the field.

“The force unit on each side of the ball is well sized and experienced for us and should provide excellent up front support for both our offense and defense,” commented Broncos Head Coach Todd Mackay who is back for fourth season at the helm and ninth year with the team.

Unlike previous years, the Broncos will be experiencing something different which could dictate how things go for the team in 2014.

“We won’t have any singular stars on either side of the ball as we’ve had the previous couple seasons, so it will be full team effort this season,” explained Mackay.

Moreover, there is one area of potential concern for the Broncos.

“Our defensive skill positions are our least experienced on the team and will be the determinant for our early success of the season,” said Mackay.

Defensive lineman Kevin Mackey and offensive lineman Avry Oneil will be counted upon to provide leadership on both units.

On offense, Nick Killinger will be the heir apparent to the pivot position, left vacant by the departure of Mackenzie Ferguson who has moved on the Yates Cup Champions, Western Mustangs.

While the Broncos goals are to make the playoffs and a return appearance to the TVDSB Championship Finals, the team knows it will not be an easy task.

“As always we would expect there to be much parody between a number of teams in ‘A’ division this year,” assessed Mackay.   “Lucas should be strong as always and would be the perennial favourites, but we would expect Central and South to be front-runner also.”
