Predators pull away in second half of Varsity action versus Thunderbirds

London, ON – The Twin City Predators used great defense and some timely offense to defeat the London Thunderbirds in Ontario Football Conference (OFC) action on Saturday. Both teams played a physical match on a muggy Saturday afternoon that had many big plays on offense, defense, and special teams.

The game started on a great note for the home team when #43, Stephen Tsioros, pounced on a predator fumble in the end zone of the visiting team. After an unsuccessful convert attempt the thunderbirds led early 6 to 0. It wasn’t long after that the predators capitalized on a successful fake punt when QB, #9, James Fracus, hooked up with #85, Karsten Beney for a 25 yard touchdown reception. End of 1st quarter 7 to 6 predators.

The second quarter saw both teams exchange turnovers but the predators scored late in the half when Fracus (grandson of the late great Gino Fracus) hooked up with Beney again for a pass touchdown. Kicker / punter, #11, Ronnie Pfeffer converted both touchdowns (and was the player who ran for first downs, twice, on fake punts).

Halftime 14 to 6 Predators

The predators continued the momentum they gained late in the half when the offense ran a reverse to #32, Jacob Taylor, for a 10 yard touchdown (convert, Pfeffer). The ensuing drive saw the Thunderbird offense finally getting on the scorecard. After a big pass play to #8, Jimmy Wiebe, #22, Dustin Rice scored on a 5 yard touchdown reception. After a missed 2 point convert attempt the home team was down by a score of 22 to 12. The remainder of the quarter saw teams exchange fumble recoveries. London #45, Christopher Tsioros. Twin City, #90, Alex Todd.

The fourth quarter saw the visitors pull away, hilited by the Fracus to Beney combo hook up for their 3rd passing TD of the game. Final score 37 to 12.
