Panthers host ‘Tackle the Cure’

OnΒ Friday, November 1stΒ the St. Marguerite d’Youville Panthers will host the Notre Dame Knights in its 1st annual ‘Tackle the Cure’ fundraiser. Β The event will raise money for the Princess Margaret Breast Cancer Research Centre, and will be sponsored by 3 local businesses. Β Panthers Head Coach J.P. Falacho commented, “It’s truly amazing how this event is coming together. Our players are really excited about making a difference. Β They loved the idea of earning a pink game, instead of just wearing pink during a game.”

Sultan Althletic has sponsored the Panthers by providing all 92 junior and senior players with customized tropic pink football socks for the game. Β Colin Poponne, co-owner of Sultan Athletic stated, “My life has been personally touched by this disease. My mother-in-law won her battle with breast cancer a few years ago. Our company also feels that we serve this community and love to get involved in these worthwhile initiatives.”

Avoryze has also sponsored all 92 players with tropic pink shoe laces, belts, bicep bands, chin straps, and mouth guards for the game. Β Co-owner Joseph Simonetta said, “Our entire company bases itself on healthy cooking oil options that are non-carcinogenic. Β When we knew d’Youville was involved in fundraising for Breast Cancer Research, we were more than willing to help promote the event through sponsorship. Β This disease touches a lot of lives and we want a cure to be found!”

SGLC Sport Field Lining in conjunction with Sherwin-Williams has decided to sponsor the event by painting the field with the works for gameday, which will include a custom tropic pink paint. Β They are also going to add some big special touches of their own to the field. Β SGLC owner Jeff Moak said, “I have no family members or friends who have breast cancer but I do have an uncle and a cousin currently battling cancer. Β It’s a tough disease. Given the opportunity to work with the d’Youville Panthers, who have come together to support the cause, I was only happy to help.”

Also present at the final game of the regular season will be Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, CityTV News, Rogers TV, the Toronto Star, the Brampton Guardian, the G98.7FM Street Team, and of course Canada Football Chat.

The Panthers are currently first place in Peel’s North Division with a record of 5-0-1. Β But according to Coach Falacho, this will be a tough game. Β “Notre Dame is always a very dangerous team. Their record is not reflective of how good they really are. There is going to be a lot going on that day during the event, but our players have to put all that aside and stay focused on their jobs during the game. Β We know that we have to play hard for all 48 minutes.”

With a win, d’Youville would secure first place in the north, and home field for the ROPSSAA semi-finals. Β Kickoff time is atΒ 12:00 noon. Β Be sure to wear your pink if you’re in attendance.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
