Pair of commits ready to don green and gold, joins Alberta

Alberta brings in a local commit and an out-of-province commit to their Class of 2018.

While CFC100 Jonathan Rosery, a running back from Harry Ainlay High School, is already familiar with where his new school is, Seth Rogers, an offensive lineman from the Victoria Spartans (Vancouver Mainland Football League), will have a little more exploring to do when the two join the University of Alberta Golden Bears.

Jonathan Rosery is no stranger to the head bench boss of the Golden Bears. ā€œI have known the head coach, Chris Morris, for a long time. He is a really nice guy and knowns have to treat his players,ā€ Rosery said.

The 5ā€™10, 185lbs athlete has been playing for five years in his hometown of Edmonton, Alberta. Along with knowing Coach Morris, his proximity to the university was another reason why he committed to Alberta. ā€œI wanted to stay close to my family during university,ā€ Rosery said. ā€œAnd, I thought I would fit into this program best.ā€

Rosery is interested in taking education. He has played with the Edmonton Mustangs, Team Edmonton (Alberta Summer Games) and Team Alberta U16. He is a two-time member of the under-18 edition of Team Alberta. He has suited up for the Harry Ainlay Titans (Metro Edmonton High School League) throughout his high school career.

Seth Rogers will be flying into Edmonton from the island city of Victoria, BC. He will be making the trek into the province of oil, drawn in by the prospect of what the University of Alberta has to offer.

“I thought the academic and athletics opportunities, as well as facilities, were incredible,” Rogers said. “I was (also) impressed with the whole coaching staff and their commitment to improvement on the field as well as in the classroom.”

Rogers has had the chance to meet most of his new coaches. “They are top-notch,” he said. “They all seem very dedicated to improving the program and the players. It was a bonus for me that the head coach is also the offensive line coach.”

Stand at 6ā€™4, 250lbs, Rogers’s primary positions are tackle and centre. He has played for the Victoria Spartans, the Saanich Wolverines (Greater Victoria Minor Football Association) and the Victoria Renegades (GVMFA). He has played for several Team BC squads, including playing on Team BC at the ABC Border Bowl. He was also selected to the VMFL Starbowl team. In 2016, he was rookie of the year.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
