Packers Favored For Super Bowl XLV

The final four has now dwindled down to the final two and we have our matchup for Super Bowl XLV: the Pittsburgh Steelers will face the Green Bay Packers on February 6th, 2010.

As you can imagine, the picks are already flooding the internet and on Monday morning, theyā€™ll be flooding water-coolers as well ā€“ or at least the water-cooler conversations ā€“ and the experts have also started to chime in such as the Super Bowl.

The Pittsburgh Steelers took care of the New York Jets in the AFC Championship Game and the Green Bay Packers turned aside the Chicago Bears in the NFC Championship Game.Ā Ā For the first time ever, weā€™ll see a No. 6 seed face a No. 2 seed.

The Packers are a three-point favorite to start and the general consensus ā€“ at least in the early going ā€“ is siding with them. The public opinion has it that the Packers are playing the best football right now and that they have looked more impressive in their run up to Super Bowl XLV.

Green Bay took down Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the playoffs and then manhandled the No. 1 seed in the NFC, the Atlanta Falcons. Then on Sunday, they were in control from start to finish as they topped the Bears. Going even further back, the Packers have been playing playoff football well into December as they nearly defeated the New England Patriots on the road without their star quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, and when they got their main man back from concussion, they whipped the New York Giants and topped the Bears in Week 17.

Some people feel the Steelers are lucky to even be in the Super Bowl as they were down 21-7 at halftime in the divisional round when the Baltimore Ravens visited and nearly coughed up a 24-0 lead at home in the AFC Championship Game. At the same time, the Packers have never trailed in the postseason and have had to play all of their games on the road.

We still have nearly two weeks to go until kickoff but the early opinions are picking the Packers.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
