JUNIOR VARSITY

Mississuaga @ Cambridge

Tyler Varga has received lots of positive press this year and it is all well deserved. He has combined yardage of over 1200 yards (727 rushing, 9TDs, 251 punt return yards, 2 TDs, 267 kick return yards, 2 TDs, and only 5 yards receiving) in 7 games. Stop Varga and you stop cambridge? Yes, but they have some talent on the defensive side as well, featuring Robin Petrie, Lucas Beeby, and Garret Burke. Mississauga will counter with varga’s Team Ontario teammate Benny Osmow on the defense and a more balanced offensive attack led by QB Marcus Hobbs (775 yards, 5 TDs, 8 Ints, 252 rushing yards, 4 TDs) and RB Lukas Gavac (836 yards, 8 TDs). Cambridge won a week 8 match up 17 to 9 without Varga.

Hamilton @ Niagara

This is a rematch of week 1 when niagara won by a score of 30 to 11. Lots of water under the bridge since that match up. Team Ontario running back Johnny Augustine will again star for the spears in this one. If Augustine gets loose it will be a long day for the ironmen. Spears QB Jordan Maxim-Davey was 2nd in the league in passing with 1480 yards, 9 TDs, 7 INTs, A big win over guelph last week, with the offense producing points versus a good team, should give the ironmen confidence and momentum.

Niagara 24 Hamilton 17

Toronto Thunder @ Myers
7-Aug-2010 5:00 P.M.
This is a rematch of a week 2 game when myers traveled to Toronto and beat the Thunder 24 to 9. Toronto has played well the last 3 weeks and hope to bring that momentum into this game. Running back Jayde Rowe will have to come up big for the Thunder. The riders should have the edge with a stout defense that led the league by giving up only 54 points in 8 games. Enough said.

Myers 17 Thunder 14

Brampton @ MTW

This is where the numbers can be misleading. The bulldogs and wildcats faced off in week 1 but the bulldogs forfeited the match. There 2 losses were to forfeit. The bulldog defense is balanced and the offense is lead by QB Christian Strong (1478 yards, 13 TDs, 4 INTs) who was third in the league in passing. Stop the bulldog passing game and you have a chance. The wildcats, like all their teams, are balanced and well coached. QB Michael Tassone and RBs Travis Jennings and Jordan Richards will have to come up big versus a solid bulldog defense. The bulldogs may be a little banged up after a hard physical battle versus the grenadiers.

London @ Niagara

On paper this one looks like a mismatch but never count out a team from london. They proved that last week with an upset win over the essex ravens. Two weeks in a row may be tough. The falcons will again rely on the running of Greg Cherniak and Sinjon Crombleholme and the defensive efforts of Derek Drouillard, Damion Inlakhana, and Kevin Williams. Niagara comes into the game rested and ready. There running attack is one of the most dreaded in the league with 4 great options with Corey Verkuyl, Adam Evans, Trevon Demos and Marc Plamondon. The spears will be too much too handle on this day.

Niagara 27 London 14

Mississauga @ Cambridge
7-Aug-2010 8:00 P.M.
Here is a big one. The warriors beat the lions in week 8 by a score of 24 to 21. We expect the same close battle. In that warrior home game, the lions Carlton Smith had his regular big game rushing for 180 yards on 16 carries for 2 TDs. Not to be outdone warrior running back Daniel Mariano carried for 143 yards on 27 carries and 1 TD. Sounds easy, but stop them and win. Easier said then done.

Cambridge 19 Mississauga 16

Pickering @ Myers
7-Aug-2010 2:00 P.M.
Myers and Pickering faced one another in week 6 with the riders coming out on top 37 to 0. Pickering will be thinking about that on the entire bus ride to our nations capital. Myers defense, led by Ethan Goulet, Justin Butler, Jordan Gorgichuk, Kyle Roger, and Griffin Harding and just too strong. Throw in QB Michael Arruda and RB Tunde Adeleke and its lights out for the dolphins. The dolphin offense will have to play perfect for them to have a chance. QB Raishaun Provo will have to use his legs effectively and RBs matthew boateng and Nathaniel fermin will have to be huge.

Myers 30 Pickering 10

Toronto Thunder @ MTW
7-Aug-2010 11:00 A.M.
Week 5 match up between these two saw the wildcats come out on top by a score of 23 to 14. In that game the wildcat defense did a tremendous job limiting the thunder offense, in particular, limiting the running of Rakeem Simms to less than 100 yards. Nathan Officer, QB Wildcats, had his biggest day of the year with a total 187 yards and 1 TD. As usual it will come down to defense and turnovers. Win that part and you become unofficial city champs.
