Opportunity to be part of Guelph’s defence “truly an honour” says Newmarket recruit (VIDEO)

Newmarket linebacker joins OUA team’s 2016 class

Alex Jafs seized a special chance that came his way during his CIS recruitment process.

Recently, the 6’0, 215 pound linebacker from Newmarket, Ontario committed to Guelph Gryphons.  Jafs will join the team for the 2016 OUA season.

While academics played a part in his decision, it was the chance to join one of the top defences in the country that appealed to him.

“I really like how Guelph’s science program is laid out,” elaborated Jafs.  “I am interested in the health field but not 100 percent; Guelph allows me to take general sciences before getting into the anatomy courses or human kinetics”

“Their football team is known for an outstanding defence and being able to be a part of that is truly an honour. Also, Guelph’s high quality coaching staff produces many CFL players every year so it proves how well their good their coaches really are. Furthermore, the atmosphere on campus really makes me feel at home.”

Among the teams that the linebacker has played for during his career include Newmarket Raiders of the York Region Athletic Association (YRAA) and York Simcoe Bucs/York Region Lions of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).
