CFC#7 commits to NCAA Division 1 team

CFC TOP 100 CLASS 2015 Jonathan Femi-Cole is NCAA Division 1 bound.

Yesterday, the 5’11, 218 pound running back from Vaughan Ontario committed to NCAA Division 1 team, University of Minnesota Gophers while there on a visit.

The Gophers were the first school that offered the CFC TOP 100 back on February 20th.  Since that offer from the Gophers, Femi-Cole has received others from the University of Buffalo Bulls and the University of Nevada Wolfpack.

Currently, Femi-Cole is suiting up for his high school team, St. Andrew’s College Saints of the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA).

Saints Head Coach Len Gurr said the team was thrilled but not surprised of the news of Femi-Cole’s commitment.

“Everybody in our program is immensely proud of Jonathan,” commented Gurr.  “Not only is he the most talented player on our roster, but nobody works harder in the weight room and on the practice field to maximize their ability.”

“He fully deserves this outstanding opportunity. He is an exceptional prospect and one of the best skill position players to come out of Canada in recent years.”

Gurr added that yesterday’s commitment was the culmination of months of the Gophers coaching staff actively pursuing the CFC TOP 100 running back. Ultimately, this resulted in solidifying a unique bond between Femi-Cole and the Gophers.

“Jonathan is currently on campus at Minnesota for a recruiting BBQ and chose to commit while on the visit,” said Gurr.  “The Minnesota coaches, particularly Coach Rob Reeves, have spent a lot of time building a relationship with him, and I know he feels at home there.”

“We are tremendously excited about his upcoming senior season for us, and then can’t wait to watch him compete against the very best in the Big Ten Conference.

Femi-Cole began his football career in grade nine for the St. Joan of Arc Thunder of the York Region Athletic Association (YRAA); he was instantaneously hooked on the sport.

The Ontario offensive standout moved on to have a successful career with the Newmarket Bucs of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).  During his time with the Bucs, he was honoured for his exceptional play on the field with Player of the Week, OVFL Offensive Player MVP honours as well as an OVFL All-Star selection.

This past May, Femi-Cole was seventh ranked on the CFC TOP 100 CLASS 2015.
