David Sprague has been playing football for seven years, and started his career in house league.

He then transitioned to play with the Burlington Stampeders in the Ontario Football Conference (OFC), where they won the Ontario Championship.

David now plays for his high school, the Waterdown Warriors, as the defensive captain.

Moreover, he was voted Most Valuable Player for the 2015 season.

“My goals for the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) are to personally refine my skills and broaden my knowledge of the game in order to become a more improved overall athlete,” said David.

“The main goal of mine is to make the roster and help lead the West team to a win in the game against Central,” added the Warrior.

During the offseason, David foes to the gym every day in order to improve his strength, cardio and agility on the field. Fortunately, he has a gym beside his school where he goes to train during his break or after school.

The Warrior also does activities like flag football, martial arts, tennis, golf and fitness courses.

“While football is my true passion, I enjoy all sports and am also looking to get involved in Sport Specific Training as I love training and believe that it is a crucial part of succeeding in any sport,” explained David.

“I consider everyday a chance to get better, that is why I am driven to work hard,” continued the Warrior.

On the field he has two idols, the first is Mike O’Shea of the Toronto Argonauts.

As a kid, he knew Mike as he was a friend of David’s father, and the first football games he had ever been to were Argo games to see Mike play middle linebacker.

“I remember Mike’s passion for the game, and the way my dad showed me how Mike lead his teammates and played with a relentless ferocity,” commented David.

Mike was always the first one to the ball and was a great tackler, which were the skills and fundamentals that David focused on when he began to play football.

“Mike O’Shea was the man that really helped expose me to football,” added the Warrior.

His other idol is Tom Brady due to his continuously high level of play and the story in which he went from an underdog to Super Bowl champion.

He also admires his mindset and willingness to never give up, as well as earn his starting role every day he is on the field.

“Football is the only sport I immediately fell in love with,” said David. “To this day I remember the first time I ever threw a football, and right then I knew football was what I wanted to play and focus on for my sporting career.”

The Warrior loves all aspects of the game. He enjoys playing many different positions, competing to his fullest, as well as learning different techniques and strategies associated with the game.

“I strive to become the best overall player I can be,” commented David. “Football has been an outlet for me over many years to develop a strong work ethic and have fun doing what I love.”
