Cameron Male got his gridiron start in the Burlington Minor Football Association (BMFA) a few years ago before switching over to rep football to play for the Oakville Titans in the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).

In Grade 9 Cameron made his high school team, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, as a starting left tackle on the offensive line. The team had a good season, but ended up losing in the playoffs.

The Fighting Irish then went to tryouts for last year’s Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) after the season ended, and was very excited after being picked to play for the Halton-Peel team.

This year, Cameron returned to Notre Dame for his sophomore year and was named as one of the team captains. He currently starts as both offensive tackle and defensive end on both sides of the ball.

“We are currently undefeated right now and I’m hoping that we will win the Tier 1 championship,” said Cameron.

At this year’s OPC his first goal is to make the team again this year.

“I would like to take more of a leadership role and get a chance at starting on the offensive line,” added the Fighting Irish. “This would again be a great honour and things I will be working hard [at] to accomplish.”

Moreover, Cameron spends his offseason training by spending time at the gym to improve his strength by lifting weights. He also runs hills to try to improve his leg strength, as well as his speed and working on getting explosive from out of his stance.

He as also attended camps, like the University of McMaster football camp, and is currently in a Big Man Camp that is put on by Sport Specific Training.

In football Cameron’s biggest role model is his dad, who is also his coach and has taught him most of what he knows.

“He wore number 58 when he played and that’s why I wear it now,” commented the Fighting Irish. “My dad played university football at Windsor where he was a captain.”

“I would love to follow in his footsteps and play university football as well,” continued Cameron.

The thing he loves most about football is being a part of a team, since there are so many guys and friends that he plays with.

He also loves the aggression of the game.

“I also love the fact that there are so many different dimensions to the game and that there’s a position for pretty much everyone no matter what size they are,” explained Cameron.
