ONT: Panthers impressive in season opener

The d’Youville Panthers hosted the Mayfield Mavericks on Thursday.

On the Panthers’ second play of their opening drive Clemente Nti took the ball to the house on a 64 yard carry.Ā  d’Youville continued their domination through pounding the ball play after play.Ā  Clemente Nti finished the game rushing for 100 yards and 2 TDs, Damian Darko rushed for 99 yards and 2 TDs, and Malik Richards also rushed for 43 yards and 2 TDs.Ā  FB Marquis Richards also added 97 yards on the ground.Ā  The Panthers finished the game with 406 yards rushing on offense.

The Panthers special team unit also added 2 TDs on a 73 yard punt return by Sodiq Ibrahim, and another 70 yard punt return by Malik Richards.

On defense d’Youville was aggressive and did not allow the Mavericks to move the ball. Captain and LB Damian Halstead dished out a tremendous amount of punishment on the Mayfield RBs.Ā  He was truly the rock to the Panthers’ relentless style of defending.

The Panthers dominated the game by a score of 56-0, and look as if they never missed a beat from last season.Ā  After the game, FS & CFC TOP 100 Malik Richards was awarded the City TV Marchants School Sports High School player of the game.

Next week d’Youville will host the St. Thomas Aquinas Cardinals on Friday at 12 noon.
