ONT (Guelph District 10): Two thrillers and a controversial first win

Six teams took the gridiron for the first week of Guelph District 10 football and it resulted in two nailbiters and one team’s controversial first ever victory.

In the first regular season game,  the Orangeville Bears traveled to Centennial to take on the Spartans on Spirit Day. The Bears were able to spoil the party; however, winning the first game in program’s history 1-0 in overtime. The controversy surrounding the win is due to the fact that regular season games in District 10 are not supposed to go into extra time. After some consideration from the league, the win was upheld.

At the Our Lady of Lourdes Crusaders’ home opener, the team was the victim of a fierce comeback by the visiting GCVI Gaels squad, losing 23-21. GCVI quarterback Job Reinhart accounted for three touchdowns scoring two on the ground and one through the air.

The Ross Royals spoiled the St. James home opener in a tight 7-2 win. Quarterback Tommy Yanchus scored Ross’ only touchdown on a short run.

The Lourdes Crusaders will visit Ross on Thursday September 26th for the Royals home opener, while Orangeville will play host to Bishop Macdonell and the Centennial Spartans will visit the St. James Lions on Friday September 27th.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
