OMFL: Bantam Steelers take revenge with 52-0 win


After three months of training, the Hamilton Steelers hit the gridiron representing Hamilton in the Ontario Minor Football League for the fourth season, since the club was born in 2008 with a Bantam and Junior Varsity team.

The club has won back-to-back championships and three (Bantam, JV and Varsity) of four Steelers teams made it to the big game last year. The Steelers PeeWee (11-12) team lost in the semifinals to the Mississauga Warriors.

This is the first year, the club is fielding teams for players as young as six years old.

The Steelers PeeWee team took to the field May 21 to face TNT Express Hamilton came up short, losing 8-0.

The Bantam team played defending champs, TNT Express May 22 in a re-match of the 2010 championship. The Steelers won 52-0.

In the second game of the day, the Steelerā€™s JV team took on TNT Express. The Steelers scored off the opening kickoff and did not look back with a 65-0 win.

The Varsity Steelers took on the Niagara Storm, scoring first and winning 28-25.

The Steelers Tyke (6-8) team takes to the field at Ivor Wynne Stadium Sunday, June 5 for its first game of the season.
