OFSAA: Lakeshore miracle at Golden Horseshoe Bowl

The Lakeshore Catholic Gators pulled off the drive of a lifetime today at the Golden Horseshoe Bowl against the M.M. Robinson Rams. It was a back and forth battle that came down to the final seconds with a final score of 29-28.

The first half was largely dominated by the Rams as they went into the final minute of the half leading 21-8. Running back Jon Howard ran eight times for 118 yards in the first quarter, while receiver Jacob Jones had five catches for 67 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Alec Robertson led the way with five tackles. The first half ended with the most anticipated game of the Bowl Series being somewhat slow and one sided. However, the second half would be filled with excitement.

The second half started with Lakeshore jumping all over the Rams early. After a strong drive downfield, the Lakeshore Gators were able to start their comeback. Slot back no. 80 Dustin Toner got the Gators back on the board with a one yard touchdown pass. Receiver no. 20 Cole Majoros ran for 103 yards and a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to get the score up to 28-22.

After the great offensive effort by the Gators, it was up to the defense to make a key stop with under three minutes left in the game. The defensive line came up with the stop, forcing the Rams to try for a field goal which they missed.

The offense got one last chance to score the needed touchdown to at least tie the game. After two bad play calls by the offense, the Gators were stuck at a third and long attempt. It was the fancy footwork and great hands of no. 80 Dustin Toner to get the first down. Lakeshore quarterback Jeremy Snyder would run for the next first down on third and long. With less than 15 seconds left, receiver no. 81 Trey Gervais caught a 20 yard pass for a touchdown with only ten seconds left.

“It was just an incredible play” says Lakeshore head coach Bernie Tessier. “For our school and our program this was an incredible win. I was on edge the entire game, in fact for the whole month I have been on edge about this game and I am thrilled that we were able to pull it off.” Needless to say, one of the many MVP’s of the game was Gator’s quarterback Jeremy Snyder who threw 100 yards and three touchdowns. “It’s a surreal experience, like a Tom Brady type play. I’m crying tears of joy right now, all year we have worked hard for this,” says Snyder. There should be a special mention to running back no. 20 Cole Majoros who caught nine passes for 220 yards. The feat was done while suffering from a shoulder injury from only two weeks ago.
