OFC: JV Stallions remain perfect, Varsity & Bantam squads fall

 

 

VARSITY

The Huronia Stallions Varsity team fell to 1-1 on the season with a 30-9 road loss to the Sudbury Gladiators.  The Gladiators defensive line dominated the Stallions up front which limited the running game and rendered the Stallions air attack completely ineffective.  The Stallions defence played tough which kept the game competitive right until the end.  With under two minutes to play Defensive Back Tyler Maher scored the Stallions lone touchdown on a 22 yard interception return for a touchdown which closed the gap to 23-9.  The Stallions then recovered the onside kick giving them life with enough time remaining to pull off the miracle. This moment of elation soon was extinguished as Quarterback James Longstreet threw a quick interception.  Stalwart rookie Defensive End Zach Willems was the leading tackler for the Defence.  The Stallions will host the Oakville Titans this Saturday at 6:30 at the Barrie Sports Complex in Midhurst in their home opener.   The Varsity and JV games will be televised on Rogers Community Television.

 

JUNIOR VARSITY

The Huronia Stallions Junior Varsity team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 39-22 victory over the Sudbury Gladiators.  The Stallions started slowly until Quarterback Nicholas DeJesus connected with Wide Receiver Christian Maciag for a 32 yard touchdown pass and catch.  The Stallions offensive line then punished Sudbury with a ground attack which resulted in three rushing touchdowns; two by Tailback Justin Janicki and one by Fullback Michael Casan.  Sudbury scored with under three minutes remaining but the Stallions quickly countered with a touchdown to seal the victory.  Michael Tomczyk was the leading receiver and also connected on a field goal.  Linebacker Saheed Khan scored a defensive touchdown to round out the scoring.  The JV Stallions home opener is this Saturday at 2pm against the Oakville Titans at the Barrie Sports Complex in Midhurst.  The game will be televised by Rogers Community Television.

 

BANTAM

The Huronia Stallions Bantam team fell to 0-2 on the season with a hard fought 21-18 loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.  The Stallions had an impressive first half scoring drive led by Quarterback Brayden Harkness which culminated with a short touchdown run by Fullback Joshua Robinson.  Robinson used a nifty spin move breaking two tackles to hit pay dirt.  The Stallions, however, found themselves down 14-6 at the half.  In the second half, the Stallions Defence led by Nico Burton played tough football limiting Hamilton to one touchdown.  Tailback Bailey Swift scored two second half touchdowns, one of which was an electrifying 50 yard scamper.  Unfortunately, Swift had a 40 yard touchdown run called back due to penalty.   Late in the game, Ty Racine had a clutch interception for the Stallions defence which gave them the ball with a chance to win or tie the game.  The Hamilton defence game up big with a 4^th down stop which left the Stallions a half yard short of a first down on their final opportunity to snatch victory from the claws of defeat.  The Stallions next game is this Sunday at 1pm at the Barrie Sports Complex in Midhurst.
