OFC JV 2: Argos and Titans fight to the end


The second game of OFC Varsity championship day at Knights-Newbrough stadium saw the Toronto Junior Argos (5-3) face the Oakville Titans (6-2).

Oakville started with the ball on offense but were forced to punt. The argos managed to convert their first drive into a touchdown, hilited by a big 40 yard run by Frank Trentadue to the 10 yard line. QB #5 Estaban Cardenas ran the ball in on a QB sneak for the first TD and 7 to 0 lead after the touchdown was converted by #24, Thomas Purdy.
On the titans first play of their next drive they fumbled the football at it was recovered by the argos #9, Christopher Houston. Three plays later trenadue ran the ball in to make the score 14 to 0. The argos did not let up and the big man, d-lineman #90 Terrelle Lewis Vu grabbed the ball right from a ball carrier and returned it 30 yards.
The argos increase there lead after a 83 yard screen pass to trenadue brought the ball in scoring position and #7 Stephen Trivieri follow it up with a 5 yard TD at 8:52 of the second quarter. The convert was blocked making the score 20 to 0.
Oakville did manage to score before the end of the half on a 5 yard QB scramble by #18 Mike Malo. 20 to 7 Halfime score

The second half saw both offenses in fine form. Oakville scored first on a 3 yard TD by #17 RB Toluwa Fayemi. The very next play #7 Trivieri scored on a 63 yard Kick off return to restore the Argo lead and make the score 26 to 14. Oakville continued its offensive momentum when they looked to have scored a TD only to be nullified by an offensive interference call. But 4 plays later Fayemi scored his 2nd TD of the half.
On the last play of the 3rd quarter the titans recovered a fumble and on their next offensive play they QB Malo hooked up with #28 Andy Moore on a 95 yard TD reception. Making the score 28 to 26 for Oakville and their first lead of the game.
Fighting back the argos executed a nice screen play to Trivieri that turned into a bigger gain after a titan face mask. A few plays later Cardenas ran in his second QB sneak TD of the game putting the argos up 34 to 28 after they converted a 2 point convert. In the closing minutes it was the argo defense that came up big with a 4th down stand and a late interception in their own end zone with 1:50 remaining. Trivieri scored his final TD of the game at 2:14 and the argos took home the OFC Junior Varsity tier 2 championship.
