OFC: Bantam Thunderbirds hold on for 2nd victory over Sturgeons

In Game 5, the Forest City Thunderbirds were host to the Sarnia Sturgeons for the second time this season. This was a rematch of a game played two weeks ago at Norm Perry Park in which the Thunderbirds team scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to escape with a 28-23 victory.

In the first quarter the Sturgeons were the first to score a touchdown, once again, scored by Easton Klaudi on a pass from Blake Maxfield. Which was closely followed by the Thunderbirds, which was reminiscent of their first game just a few weeks ago.

The Thunderbirds came out flying in the second half, driving for a touchdown the first time they had the ball. This major was the only scoring of the third quarter and the home side led 18-14 after three quarters. The Sturgeon scored a safety with 10 minutes remaining in the game to narrow their deficit to 18-16. Both the Thunderbirds and Sturgeons missed a couple of Points after touchdown and the Thunderbirds at times struggled with obtaining good yardage on return kick off and punting. Overall, Sarnia did very well in keeping up with the Thunderbirds for fielding a team with only 19 suited players, a small school of fish compared to the large flock of t-birds in the nest. In the end, the Thunderbirds won 24-22 giving them a 4 – 1 record.
