This past November, Farrell guided the Citadel Phoenix of the Nova Scotia Student Athletic Federation Football League (NSSAFFL) to the Provincial Tier 1 Championship.  He was also captain of the team.

In addition to the Phoenix, the receiver has previously suited up for both the Halifax Seahawks of the Nova Scotia Varsity Football League (NSVFL) and the Halifax Redhawks.

Other honours he has received during his career include NSSAFFL Nova Division Rookie of the Year (2013), Phoenix Offensive Rookie of the Year (2013, 2014) and two Division 1 First All-Star selections at the receiver position.

“I am very pleased to have Ian Farrell from Citadel High School in Halifax with us at Queen’s next year.” commented Golden Gaels Head Coach Pat Sheahan.  “Ian was the outstanding receiver in the Maritimes in 2014 and was a member of Citadel’s Championship team.”

“He is big for a receiver (6’1, 210) and plays a very physical style of game. He also makes those big catches over the middle and is rarely tackled by the first defender. He is also a very good special teams player. He is a 92 percent student and he is a great addition to our club!”

For his part, the strength of both the academic and football programs were the key factors in Farrell’s decision in selecting the Kingston, Ontario school.

“I committed to Queen’s because I felt that it was truly the best fit for me both academically and on the football field,” elaborated Farrell.  “Queen’s is well known for its intense school spirit and high level academics.”

“I am excited for next year and ready to take on any challenges that await me.”

With Farrell’s commitment, he becomes the second Nova Scotian recruit to sign with the Golden Gaels. He will be reunited with former Phoenix teammate, defensive back Connor Gascoigne, who recently committed to the team.
