Oakville offensive lineman becomes first recruit for AUS team’s 2014 class.

This past week, one AUS team got their first commitment for the 2014 season.

On Wednesday, Mount Allison Mounties Head Coach Kelly Jeffrey confirmed that Ontario offensive lineman Ryan Thompson is the first recruit for the AUS team’s 2014 class.

“Ryan is a talented lineman with huge upside,” commented Jeffrey.  “He has a perfect offensive tackles body.”

“When Ryan met the team we both knew immediately he was a perfect fit into our football family. He will be able to develop well academically and athletically in our program and he felt right at home as soon as he stepped on campus.”

The 6’5, 295 pound offensive lineman from Oakville, Ontario joins the Mounties after playing high school football for Tomas A Blakelock Tigers of the of the Halton Secondary School Athletic Association (HSSAA).  Moreover, Thompson has suited up for the Oakville Titans of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).

Not only were academics a factor in his decision to commit to the Mounties, but the comfort level Thompson felt with the Mounties football program when he visited the Sackville, New Brunswick campus.

“The family atmosphere of the guys on the team was a reason I signed with Mount Allison,” explained Thompson, who will plays left tackle.  “With me coming from Ontario, it will be tough leaving my family but the guys there are my family and I realized it during my trip out there.”

“The second reason is class and university size.  I think I will benefit from this because I will not be a number.   I will have a name and develop a relationship with my professors as the student to professor ratio is 16:1.”
