The sacred 40 yard dash. Some people relish the chaotic sprint, others head to the back of the line. There’s no other measurable in sports that has the ability to define a player more than the 40 yard dash, and at this point it’s such an accepted practice not many look into the history of why we all hold the event so near and dear to our hearts.

If you’re not familiar with ancient football history, your first lesson is almost any significant practice that’s second nature today began with Paul Brown and the dominant 1950s Cleveland Browns – yes that was once considered an accurate statement.
