Those are the infamous words of Washington Redskins Owner, Dan Snyder, who made his thoughts quite clear about the controversy surrounding his team’s derogatory Native imagery in an interview with USA Today back in 2013.
Generally I’d stay away from topics like these, but the issue is very real, and no doubt has had a dramatic effect on the sports landscape since Snyder’s blunt statement. I actually didn’t seek out this topic, which I think is important to note. What intrigued me most about writing this piece is that it wasn’t my idea at all, but rather, I was approached by a student who had first hand experience with the subject after his school recently took the initiative to change their identity.
