Mind of McCabe: A glimpse into the world of six-man football in Ontario

Ady Vos/QMI Agency

Don’t panic, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. Yes, there are only three offensive linemen with six defenders staring them down, and those orange lines were purposefully marked on the field. In this world you only have 40 yards of paradise from sideline to sideline, but make no mistake this is football, and it may be one of the most exciting versions you’ve ever seen,

“It’s a fast and exciting game. You still get the contact of regular football, but you’re twice as likely to have the ball in your hands because there is half as many players, and you’re twice as likely to be in on a tackle on defence.”

Thanks Ryan, for giving our league exposure. Since this article originally appeared, we have seen more high school programs fold and other schools running 12 Man football with dangerously low numbers. Anyone interested in finding out more about 6 Man should contact me at North Hastings High School.
