Fresh off a solid performance at the CIS East-West Bowl, McMaster quarterback Kyle Quinlan has been invited to participate in the training camp of the Canadian Football League Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
A native of South Woodslee, Ontario, Quinlan was informed by Marauder Offensive Coordinator Jon Behie that the Ti-Cats had asked if he was available and he jumped at the chance to play with the pros. βRight now they only have three quarterbacks signed, so I think they just need an extra arm to help out at camp,β explains Quinlan.
Heading into his fourth season in Maroon, Quinlan calls the invite an unbelievable learning opportunity. βIβll be on the field with the quarterbacks all day, attending every meeting and trying to pick up pointers about breaking down film, how training camp works, and getting prepared to play. Iβll be trying to soak up as much as possible.β
As a CIS athlete, Quinlan will not be involved in any live reps or play in the pre-season.
This is the second year Hamilton has brought a CIS quarterback to camp, as Ottawaβs Brad Sinopoli had a brief stop at the 2010 training camp. βItβs similar to what they did with Brad,β adds Quinlan.βBut Iβve been told that Iβll be there for the entire camp rather than just three or four days.β
After the 2010 season when he set the McMaster record for touchdown passes, then was asked to work at the CFL evaluation camp, and also play in the East-West Bowl, Quinlan has been on an exciting ride. βI feel ecstatic right now. This can only be great exposure for me looking to the future. Itβs just a great opportunity to become a better quarterback.β
Tiger-Cat rookies report on June 1st and Quinlan will be among them and on the familiar field of Ron Joyce Stadium on June 2nd when actual training camp gets underway. Veteran players report for camp on June 5th.
