McMaster 2017 coaching staff announced

McMaster football coach Greg Knox is excited to confirm the Marauder coaching staff for the 2017 season.

“We’ve lost some long serving coaches that have had a positive impact on Marauder football and their contribution is appreciated and will be missed,” said Knox. “As our student-athletes change and our U Sports football landscape becomes increasingly competitive , we have to adapt to maintain our success on and off the field, and we are fortunate to be able to add some bright, energetic young minds to our staff along with veteran coaches ”

Following the recent announcement of Kyle Quinlan joining the staff as co-offensive coordinator, Knox has also installed Tom Flaxman as Offensive Coordinator, working alongside Quinlan. Flaxman joined the staff in 2016, serving as Director of Football Operations and assisting with the run game and protection on the offensive side of ball.

Other new additions to the offensive 2017 staff are Larry Guarascia, who previously spent 12 seasons (2000-2011) coaching at McMaster to lead the running backs and Jim Moore to lead the offensive line.
Moore most recently served as offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator with the Toronto Varsity Blues from 2013-16.

Also joining the staff are Asher Hastings and Chris Pezzetta, who will assist with quarterbacks and running backs respectively. Both have just wrapped up their decorated playing careers in maroon with Hastings impacting nearly all of McMaster’s passing records and setting a new national standard in 2015 with 31 touchdown passes, and Pezzetta finishing as one of the Marauders all time leading rushers.

Two familiar names have joined the coaching staff on the defensive side, as former McMaster All-Canadian defensive backs Mike Daly and Joey Cupido will now patrol the sidelines at Ron Joyce Stadium.

Currently a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Daly, who has worked with the Marauders during his off seasons and assisted in a more limited capacity in-season, will assume a larger role as a defensive assistant under Coach Knox. Cupido has spent the last two seasons as the radio analyst for Marauders games on TSN 1150, and this is his first foray into the coaching ranks, where he will assist Rob Underhill with the McMaster defensive backs.

“Almost all our new coaches have deep ties to Marauder football either as players or coaches in the past ,” added Knox. “With our new structure we have doubled our full-time staff, which is a critical step toward sustainable success.”
