McGill’s “attitude” resonated with CEGEP recruit

CEGEP running back joins RSEQ team’s 2016 class.

Jonathan Mayne went with the one CIS school that has always been on his radar during his recruitment process.

The 6ā€™0, 208 pound running back from Vaudreuil, Quebec committed to the McGill Redmen.Ā  Mayne will join the team for the 2016 RSEQ season.

For one thing, academics played a central role in the running back’s decision.

ā€œMcGill has always been in the picture for me,ā€ elaborated Mayne.Ā  ā€œI grew up watching their games and looking up to few players and I remember telling my parents that one day Iā€™d be part of McGill and their answer was always “Well, you got to have good grades at school”.ā€

ā€œSo from my aspiration, a sort of academic ethics had to be developed and it has followed me up till this day. Football or not I would have probably attended McGill anyways. I know that beside football there must be something, and I know McGill can offer me the best alternative.ā€

Equally, the strength of the football program was an appealing feature of the RSEQ school.

ā€œFootball wise, the coaching staff specifically Coaches Ron Hilaire, SĆ©bastien LĆ©vesque, and Ben Groulx have greatly contributed to my commitment,ā€ expressed Mayne.Ā  ā€œThese are extremely well-prepared and devoted individuals.ā€

ā€œThey have a plan, they are disciplined about it, they genuinely believe in it and this is felt through by the players. Thatā€™s what resonated with me – the attitude of McGill.ā€

The running back has been playing the sport for the past 11 years.Ā  Among the teams he has suited up for during his career include Western Patriots, the Citadins and CEGEP Division 1 team, Vanier Cheetahs.
