McGill welcomes Cheetah, Triades to 2017 class

The Redmen focus on offense in their latest round of commits.

It can be hard, sometimes, to catch the attention of a recruiter. But, that’s not the case for Pearce Denver Wright, a wide receiver from Vanier College, and Gabriel Lussier, a running back from Cégep regional de Lanaudière à L’Assomption, who have swooned the McGill Redmen’s recruiting staff.

Pearce Denver Wright has been on McGill’s radar for quite some time. “I chose this program they have always had eyes on me from year one of Cégep football and I see a great program in them and one that I can greatly contribute to. It’s the best fit for me,” Wright said. He spent his Cégep years with the Vanier Cheetahs (RSEQ Division 1).

Four years of scouting gives you a lot of time to get to know the coaching staff. Wright said, “I admire the coaching staff very much. They are good people and they make me feel at home, especially Head Coach Ron (Hilarie).”

Prior to his years with Vanier, Wright played six years with the Sun Youth Hornets (QMFL). He will be taking physical education and business at McGill.

With a new year on the horizon, Wright said, “I’m here to help this program win championships and to show the league how great of an athlete I am. I’m here to make a difference.”

Gabriel Lussier has spent his Cégep football career with the Triades de Lanaudière (RSQE Division 2). “I decided to commit to McGill University because since two years ago, they are making good progress with the new coaching staff and I would like to contribute to this new team. The quality of the education also made the choice much easier,” he said.

“The coaching staff seems passionate and professional in their approach. They look determined to bring the program to the next level and they are very close to the players. They demand a lot from them, but I want to get pushed as far as I can, so its perfect for me,” he added.

Lussier hails from St-Roch-de-L’Achigan, Québec, which is a community north-east of Montréal. He is interested in taking a Bachelor of Commerce in management and marketing. This season, he won a leadership award with the Triades.

In the end, Lussier’s decision to commit to McGill stems from the team’s mentality. “If I had to summarize why I choose to commit to McGill, I would say that everybody in this program seems hungry and it really connects with me,” he said.
