Manitoba: Rams disband but Interlake to join Manitoba Midget

After a four year run, the Stonewall high school football program is folding. But this is not all bad news.

The coaches and supporters have decided to start a midget program. The major reasons being not enough “teacher coaches” and that they could draw kids from the surrounding area instead of being limited to just Stonewall high school kids.

A lack of success was not the reason they folded the high school team. In 2008, while playing in the Rural Manitoba Football League, they captured the nine-man championship. In 2010 they made the switch to the Winnipeg High School Football League and made it to the semi-finals.

Now instead of having the school run the program they will have a board of directors. It allows for many more people to be added to the organization. Coach Mitch Obach will remain the head coach. The organization is looking for volunteers and players.

Already 25 players have signed up for the 2011 season. More information on the new team can also be found online at [url]www.hometeamsonline.com/interlakefootball
