London’s Jacob Ruby signs with University of Richmond

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND – Richmond head football coach Latrell Scott announced Thursday that offensive tackle Jacob Ruby has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Richmond next season. Ruby comes to the Spiders from Fork Union Military Academy and had originally committed to University of Connecticut.

“We’re excited to add Jacob to an already high-profile recruiting class,” said Scott. “Jacob will add depth to our offensive line and embodies what we are looking for in a student-athlete at the University of Richmond.”

A native of London, Ontario, Ruby is 6-foot-8, 290 pounds and becomes the 19th addition to Scott’s first recruiting class, which was ranked as high as No. 2 in the Football Championship Subdivision by Rivals.com. Ruby is one of 18 incoming freshmen, along with transfer QB Aaron Corp (a rising junior from the University of Southern California).

Ruby played high school football at Medway High in Ontario before moving to Fork Union. He’s also played two years of club football for the London Falcons, where he was named the team’s Most Outstanding Offensive Player. He was tight end for FUMA in 2008, and played tackle in 2009, earning an All-State and All-Prep honors.

In January, Ruby was one of 90 players selected to play in the USA vs. The World All-Star Game, which was broadcast live on the NFL Network.

Richmond is coming off an 11-2 season that saw the Spiders claim the 2009 CAA Football Championship. Over the last three years, the Spiders have compiled a 35-8 record with a National Championship in 2008 and CAA titles in 2007 and 2009. The 2010 campaign marks Richmond’s first in the new $25-million Robins Stadium on campus.
