Local recruit finds ‘ideal fit’ with Blues

Toronto offensive lineman signs with OUA team

Matthew Diamanti found the perfect situation right in his own backyard.

Recently, the 5’10, 290 pound offensive lineman (center) signed with local CIS team, University of Toronto Varsity Blues.  Diamanti will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

“I chose to commit to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues firstly because they are one of the top rated universities in the world and the top rated university in Canada in regards to academics,” explained the offensive lineman of his commitment.  “Secondly, there was mutual interest in regards to me playing for the team and having the same values made it an ideal fit.”

“As Head Coach Greg Gary put it University of Toronto is an elite university and education is always first and foremost. Finally, the coaches and players were extremely welcoming to me and there was a family like atmosphere within the team for such a big university.”

This past season, Diamanti guided the Chaminade Gryphons of the Toronto District Catholic Athletic Association (TDCAA) to an undefeated season en route to both the league Championship and OFSAA Bowl victory.

In addition to the Gryphons, the offensive lineman previously suited up with Metro Toronto WIldcats of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).
