Local recruit felt “big inspiration” by Queen’s

Kingston defensive lineman joins OUA team’s 2016 class

During his childhood, Jonah Johnston dreamt that one day he would become a part of his hometown CIS team.

This past week, that dream became a reality as the 6’1, 235 pound defensive lineman from Kingston, Ontario signed with the Queen’s Gaels. Β Johnston will join the team for the 2016 OUA season.

“The reason why I chose Queen’s is for the academics but also I believe the reason I chose Queen’s is because growing up in Kingston, I grew up watching the Gaels play,” reflected Johnston. Β “I think was a big inspiration for me playing football and drove me to work hard to be able to play for the Gaels.”

“It finally payed off! Also, playing in the new stadium is exciting.”

The defensive standout spent the past five seasons playing for the Holy Cross Crusaders of the Kingston Area Secondary School Athletic Association (KASSAA). Β Moreover, Johnston has suited up for the Kingston Grenadiers of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) for three years.
