Local recruit appeals to Golden Bears’ bright future

St. Albert slotback/halfback signs with CWUAA team.

Shaydon Philip is ecstatic for the opportunity to begin his CIS career at home.

Recently, the 6’4, 190 pound slotback/halfback from St.Albert signed with the University of Alberta Golden Bears.  Philip will join the team for the 2015 CWUAA season.

“I’m overjoyed and blessed to be able to play football in my hometown at the university level,” expressed Philip of his commitment.  “The top level of academics provided and the amount of talented players surrounding the program makes the University of Alberta a great choice for me to start the next chapter in my life.”

“Since Coach [Chris] Morris has started as the head coach the University of Alberta has improved in multiple ways and continue to do so. I’m excited to see what the future has in store for this team.”

Philip previously played for Paul Kane Blues of the Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA). This past season, he registered 35 tackles, caught two interceptions, amassed 466 yards on 34 receptions and tallied 11 majors.

Additionally, Philip has suited up for the St Albert football organization at varied levels (atom Jaguars, peewee Colts, bantam Fury).
