Ottawa linebacker joins RSEQ team’s 2016 class

#CFC100 Dan Basambombo was honoured of the opportunity that was presented to him.

As a result, the 6’0, 215 pound linebacker (outside) from Ottawa, Ontario signed with the Laval Rouge et Or. Β Basambombo will join the team for the 2016 RSEQ season.

Overall, the defensive standout felt that he fit in perfectly with the Rouge et Or in addition to the fact that the academic and gridiron programs would provide him the best chance to succeed in future years.

“One of the main factors that made me commit to Laval is that I truly felt like I belonged there,” elaborared Basambombo. Β “When I went down to Quebec for my official visit, I got the opportunity to meet some of the Rouge et Or players and also spend time with coach Glen himself.”

“I felt really welcomed. I can even say I felt as if I was already part of the family. My gut feeling played a big role on this one. Laval also offered me this unique program called “Science de la consommation”. It’s a program that caught my attention and it’s perfect for my academic interests. Also, we can’t forget the football community down in Quebec is amazing! They can get over 17 thousand fans to their games and that’s just amazing how many people care about football there. Having the chance to play in front of these supportive fans will be an honour.”

The #CFC100 recruit has played for several teams during his career including Franco Cite Falcons of the National Capital Secondary School Athletic Association (NCSSAA), Canterbury Mustangs of the National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA) and Cumberland Panthers of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

In 2015, Basambombo led the Panthers in defensive statstics with 30 solo tackles, 49 assisted tackles, two solo sacks, two assisted sacks, three batted balls, two fumble recoveries and one touchdown.

The linebacker has received multiple honours throughout his gridiron career including Rookie of the Year.
