Laurier Golden Hawks’ ‘spirit’ draws in 2

Laurier adds two Ontario commits to their Class of 2017.

Despite attending different schools, offensive lineman Will St. Hubert from Pickering High School and FPC defensive lineman Callum McKean from Michael Power/St. Joseph High School shared the same mascot, but now they will also share the same team after signing with the Sir Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.

Each team has its own unique brand, a ā€œfeelingā€ if you will. It didnā€™t take long for Will St. Hubert to pick up on the feeling of the Golden Hawks. ā€œI chose Laurier because of their environment and the Gold Hawk spirit that is spread everywhere,ā€ he said.

While recruiting can be a difficult process, St. Hubert said the Laurier coaching staff made it ā€œas easy as it can be.ā€ He added that, ā€œThey are welcoming and you can tell they seek to build a connection and relationship with all the players.ā€

Interested in Sociology, the 6ā€™5, 280lbs tackle has only been playing the sport for two years. Hailing from Ajax, Ontario, his career has been spent with the Durham Dolphins (OVFL) and the Pickering High School Trojans (Lake Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association). In 2016, he was the Dolphinsā€™ offensive lineman of the year.

Callum McKean
Callum McKean is from Etobicoke, Ontario, in the Greater Toronto Area. Standing at 6ā€™5, 215lbs, he played with the Michael Power-St. Joseph Trojans (Toronto District Catholic Athletic Association) in high school. He has experience playing as a defensive end, tight end, wide receiver and slot back. In the 2016 edition of OFSAA Metro Bowl, McKean and the Trojans fell 28-7 to the St. Matthew Tigers.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
