Laurier Golden Hawks coaches do their job ‘outstandingly’ says commit

Laurier brings in an Ontario commit to their Class of 2018.

Rico Charbonneau, a cornerback from AN Myer Secondary School, has one goal when he joins the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, and he knows just the people to help him attain it.

“I’m really excited for the university experience next year. I already built a base for myself. I want to see if the coaches can transform me into a better player than I already am,” Charbonneau said. “They told me they will help develop me into a strong defensive back.”

Charbonneau has full confidence in a coaching staff that he called “amazing.” He said that, “They have one job to do and they do it outstandingly.”

But, it wasn’t only the men behind the bench that have Charbonneau excited. He said that he chose Laurier because the school has very good academic programs. While he is going into general sciences in first year, he plans on figuring out where to go from there thereafter. His future plans are to become either a personal trainer or do something that involves fitness and health.

When the 2018 football season begins, there should be a buzz of excitement on campus. “It is a very spirited school. Everyone loves to have fun and get involved,” Charbonneau said.

Campus wise, Charbonneau said the school is easy to navigate and it is “very appealing looks wise.”

The six-year veteran stands at 6’1, 190lbs and calls Niagara Falls, Ontario, his home. He has played with Team Ontario at the Football Canada Cup, the Niagara Generals (OFL) and the Niagara Spears (OFL). For grade nine and ten, he suited up with the Westlane Spartans (AA Niagara League) before joining the AN Myer Marauders (Zone 3 AAA).

This year, Charbonneau and the Marauders captured an OFSAA championship. The team was ranked #2 in all of Canada.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
