Lancers announce 9 more recruits for class 2011

Lancer Football interim head coach Joe D’Amore is pleased to announce the commitment of nine more players to the football program for the 2011 season.

Highlighting the group is local standout and two-time WECSSAA all-star John Langley from Villanova high school. The 6’0, 280 lbs. lineman is a native of LaSalle, Ontario and currently plays for the Essex Ravens where he was an OVFL all-star in 2010.

“We believe John is the best two-way interior lineman in the city,” said Coach D’Amore. “He will have the chance to step in on day one and contribute to the defensive line rotation.”

The Lancers have also continued to identify their need at offensive line with the addition of four more recruits. Nick Kotselidis, a 6’3, 285 lbs. lineman from Mississauga, Brandon Riley (picture), 6’1, 260 lbs. lineman from Hamilton, Dylan Polfliet, a 6’1, 255 lbs. lineman from Woodstock and Drew Watukz, a 6’2, 270 lbs. lineman from Waterloo will all join the Lancer program this fall.

“All these young guys bring great size and strength to the position.” said D’Amore. We’ll need a few of them to contribute right away and I am excited about the competition in camp.”

The Lancers also added two more offensive players to the roster, including WECSSA all-star quarterback Josh Deehan from Villanova and wide receiver Liam McConnell from Sir Winston Churchill in Thunder Bay.

“I have coached Josh for the last few seasons and he has all the necessary tools to be a successful quarterback at this level.” added D’Amore. “Liam is a tall (6’3) receiver who plays on the outside and will add some size and athleticism to our perimeter.”

D’Amore also announced the addition of two more players on the defensive side of the ball. David Fleweling, a 6’2 240 lbs. linebacker from Bowmanville and Kris Rivard a 6’1 170 lbs. safety from Sturgeon Falls.

“David is the most physically ready football player coming out of high school I have seen in a long time,” said D’Amore. “He should challenge right away at either defensive end or middle linebacker and will part of the foundation of this defense for years to come. “

“Kris was named defensive player of the year in his league and that says a lot about his abilities,” added D’Amore. “We are excited to get him to Windsor and working with strength coach Frank Jeney to improve on his overall strength.”

The Lancers currently have 29 recruits committed for the upcoming 2011 season. Coach D’Amore is excited about their abilities on the football field as well as their commitment in the classroom.

“This is not only a great group of football players but they are also outstanding students,” commented D’Amore. “We’ve made it a priority to recruit players that are committed to both athletics and academics and these 29 recruits are great examples of that.”
