Kennedy, Crawford awesome in Ravens victory over Warriors

Austin Kennedy…Terrance Crawford. Accounted for all 7 ravens touchdowns. Accounted for most of the spectacular plays by the ravens. Accounted for at least 400 yards rushing combined. Simply awesome in a comback that saw the ravens down 21 to 0.

The warriors started the game on fire going up 14 to 0 by the 12 minute mark of the first quarter on two Javion Elson touchdowns. With 14:00 minutes remaining in the second quarter the warriors stopped the ravens on fourth down and a few plays later converted into a touchdown (again Elson) and 21 to 0 lead at 8:18 of 2nd quarter. Looking to have all the momentum the warriors looked like they were going to cruise to victory. But not so fast.

Essex attempted a 39 yard field goal that hit the post and resulted in no points for the visitors. The ravens got the ball back after a failed warrior drive in good field position. It was this drive where the raven offense looked to get going. Austin Kennedy, QB #11, converted the drive on a scramble at the 3:30 mark of the 2nd quarter. The convert made it 21 to 7 for the warriors.

Guess what, the very next offensive play for the warriors saw Javion Elson scamper 70 yards for a touchdown and a lead of 28 to 7 after the ferraro convert. At this point there was 3 minutes until half time.

The ravens got the ball back and converted a first down. The ravens now scrimmaged from just over half and kennedy started to show off his magic on the day. This time he had help from Dylan Whitfield. Kennedy scrambled to his left, then back to his right found a wide open Whitfield. After the catch whitfield took it to the house on a spectacular 45 yard run effort where he got some help from his receivers along the way with key blocks. 28 to 14

The warriors got the ball back and were unsuccessful in their drive. The ravens got the ball back with under 1 minute remaining. They drove the ball down the field quickly and efficiently and the drive was converted when Kennedy made an unbelievable scramble run for a touchdown with 12.3 seconds remaining in the half. 28 to 21 Warriors

The second half turned in to the Terrance Crawford show. Statistics were not available at press time but we believe he would have rushed for over 300 yards, much of that coming in the 2nd half. Crawford had 3 touchdowns in the second half and kennedy picked up one more. The warrior offense was held to one ferraro field goal in the entire second half. The end of the third quarter saw the ravens up 35 to 31 and they pulled away in the fourth quarter with two more TDs, making the final 49 to 31 and a happy bus ride to windsor.

GAME NOTES:
– there was a football controversy in the first half when the ravens claimed the ball’s being used during the game were not official OVFL sanctioned balls
– crowd was bursting at the seams at the small Mississauga Valleys venue
– officiating was competent and kept a nice flow to the game
– both teams played with great effort and left it all on the field…the result was a great football game on a beautiful friday night
