Joining Windsor a homecoming for Canadian DB in USA

Windsor brings in the son of an alumni to their Class of 2017.

Kurtis Drouin, a defensive back from Prattville Christian Academy, will be returning to a place he knows all too well when he joins the Windsor Lances this September.

“I had grown up in Windsor for most of my life. I actually spent close to eleven years living in Windsor before I eventually moved to the United States,” he said, adding that he once lived in Dunnville, Ontario.

It is no surprise that Windsor would be on his radar. His connection stems further than a geographical one, however. “When I went for my tour of the campus earlier this year, I was completely won over by the football staff and the human kinetics faculty. Seeing my dad return to human kinetics after all these years and having old professors run up and hug him and ask him how he has been, it showed the true character of the school,” he said.

The future human kinetics student added that most other campus tours were less personal and more about showing the aesthetics of campus life. What he loved about Windsor, though, was the connection the Human Kinetics program and the football staff had with him.

“At first glance, I see the coaches as very personal and approachable. They are there to work you to your max, but they are also focused on you getting your degree,” Drouin said. “When Coach Purcell gave me the tour of the football facility, he constantly stressed to me how football is important, but that my first responsibility in college is to earn my degree.”

The former Holy Trinity Titan (Lake Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association) won a LOSSA championship in 2014. While attending Prattville Christian Academy (Alabama High School Athletic Association) in his current hometown of Prattville, Alabama, he came in second in the Alabama state championship for long jump and 4x200m indoor track in 2017. He has made honour role every year. From 2013-2015, he was a student council member. In 2016-2017, he was a member of the National Honours Society and won the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award for his school.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
