Smash-mouth addition

Kanata fullback newest recruit to join AUS team’s 2014 class.

One Ontario standout has elected to move east to continue his gridiron and academic career.

Will Johnson has committed to the St. Francis Xavier (St.FX) X-Men for the 2014 AUS season.  The 5’10, 225 pound fullback from Kanata, Ontario is looking forward to the change of scenery.

“I chose St.FX because of the family atmosphere I saw when I visited the campus as well as because I think Coach (Gary) Waterman is a great coach and someone I would love to play for the next couple of years,” explained Johnson of his decision.  “Also, the university has a very good business program that I was interested in.”

The Ontario fullback recently completed his high school career with Ashbury Colts of the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA).  Moreover, Johnson has suited up for the Ottawa Myers Riders of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) Kanata Knights of the National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA).

The X-Men are thrilled to welcome Johnson to the fold.

“Will Johnson comes to us from a winning program (Ottawa Myers Riders),” commented X-Men Recruiting Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach Gord Gallimore.  “He is a solid player who exhibits a smash mouth attitude.”

“He is a great student in the classroom and of the game. His relationship with current players on the team will also make his transition to X a smooth one. We are extremely happy to have Will a part of the X-Family.”
