Jim Popp, Alouettes GM, reportedly could join Redskins

The Redskins are expected to make some additions to their front office soon, and one of the first names to surface is likely an unfamiliar one to most Redskins fans.

Jim Popp, the general manager of the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League, could soon be joining the Redskins’ personnel department, according to a Montreal Gazette report.

A message left with Popp on Thursday was not immediately returned, and there was no word coming out of Redskins Park about Popp.

Popp has been the Alouettes’ general manager for the past 15 years. Prior to that, he was an assistant general manager for the Baltimore Stallions. His teams have made playoff appearances every year, reached 14 division championships and nine Grey Cups, winning the CFL’s top trophy three times.

There don’t appear to be any obvious links between Popp and either Redskins’ General Manager Bruce Allen or Coach Mike Shanahan, although Popp is well-respected and certainly a familiar name in football circles.

The Redskins last week parted ways with two scouts, but they’ve yet to announce any changes — additions or subtractions — to the front office and personnel department.
