Idol’s active role sways Windsor recruit towards McMaster (VIDEO)

Windsor pivot recently joins Yates Cup Champions 2015 class.

Kyle Quinlan reached out to Anthony Bontorin.

Impressed that one of his main gridiron influences sought him out was enough for the 6ā€™1, 210 pound pivot from Windsor, Ontario to commit to the McMaster Marauders. Bontorin will join the Yates Cup Champions for the 2015 OUA season.

ā€œThe recruiting process started with a call from Kyle Quinlan, who I really looked up to, watching him guide his team to a Vanier Cup in 2011,ā€ recalled Bontorin.Ā  ā€œWith him growing up in Windsor and going to Cardinal Carter, we had a lot to talk about and that was definitely one of the reasons McMaster grabbed my attention. My Offensive Co-ordinator Craig Poole actually coached Kyle when he was in high school, which is pretty cool.ā€

Furthermore, the offensive standout was sold on the team after his third official visit to the Hamilton, Ontario campus.

ā€œAfter taking my third visit to the campus, speaking with the coaches and taking a tour around the campus, I just knew this was the place I wanted to attend,ā€ added Bontorin.Ā  ā€œThere is no doubt I believe McMaster has the best coaching staff in the OUA and a sense of professionalism that I didn’t see in some of the other schools I visited.ā€

ā€œI also believe with a degree from McMaster University, I will be getting the education I need to succeed in my future after football.ā€

Recently, Bontorin completed his career with Holy Names Fighting Knights of the Windsor and Essex County Secondary School Athletic Association (WECSSAA).Ā  In nine games this past season, he threw 14 passing touchdowns, scored three rushing majors and threw only three interceptions.

In addition to the Knights, the Windsor pivot also suited up for the Essex Ravens of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).Ā  In the 2014 season, he amassed 1565 passing yards, 18 passing touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns and threw five interceptions in 11 games.
