HURRICANES SEEK REDEMPTION

Thursday, September 21, 2017. Charlottetown ā The Holland College Hurricanes menās football team will look to go 1-1 on their season when they hit the road to square off against the UNB – Saint John Seawolves this Saturday at 1 p.m.
After a disappointing loss to start their 2017 campaign last week, head coach Ross Young and his coaching staff broke down the game film to correct basic mistakes made on both sides of the ball.
āTheyāve been preparing for Saint John all week. The Seawolves bring a lot of pressure from the defense. They do expect the blitz and a read option run play game. The Seawolves also get good yardage on the ground from their running game. Itāll keep the Hurricanes players on their toes,ā he said.
Young was very pleased with the way the Hurricanes played in certain situations.
āThe coaches were happy with the punting game and the plays the defense and offense made. The running game was effective and QB Brady Crowe had a nice game in the air,ā Young said.
āWe have an array of options our quarterback can call and we have lots of assets in the backfield. Iād like to see our offense bring a variation of plays, personnel and sets.ā
The coaching staff have been tweaking some things in practice this week following their loss to the Red Bombers.
āItās another good test for our young team and theyāll have to focus,ā Young said.
Putting last weekās loss behind them, the team is focusing on the Seawolves this week, and what they bring to the table.
āWe will make some adjustments on the Hurricanes defense in personnel and coverage and show variations. We need to rep the players and play our bench more often to keep energy on the field.ā
The Hurricanes plan to keep the defence off the field by playing 3 up, 3 down football so the offense can go to work, Young said.
āThe offence has to reduce penalties by having more disciplined play at the line of scrimmage, by playing smart and letting the opposition take the penalties.ā
The team has been doing a lot of conditioning work this week in practice, and the players have been competing to make the travel roster. The Hurricanes will have help returning to the defence this week. Defensive tackle Rashayne Nelson, defensive back Douglas Sawyer, and defensive end Tyler Hobbs will be in the line-up this Saturday.
