Hurricanes open junior football mini-camp

The defending Ontario Junior Football Conference champion Hamilton Hurricanes are holding their spring training mini-camp this week.

The first session at Ivor Wynne Stadium was Wednesday evening. They are back at it Thursday from 7 to 10 p.m. and, on Friday, workouts move to McMaster’s Ron Joyce Stadium from 7 to 10 p.m.
Team president Mike Samuel says 25 rookies were expected to attend along with about 18 selected veterans. Jason Hayes returns as head coach.

The Hurricanes open their regular training camp Tuesday, Aug. 9, in preparation for the season-opener Friday, Aug. 26, at Burlington Nelson Stadium against the Braves. Hamilton’s first home game at Ivor Wynne is Friday, Sept. 2, at 7:30 p.m. against Burlington.

Any player between the age of 17 and 22 who wants to try out for the Hurricanes can view the team’s online recruiting form at www.the-canes.com. For more information, call 905-745-7508.

The addition of the Waterloo-based Twin-City Predators this season brings the number of teams in the league to eight.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
