Huronia stallions gallop to victory


The Huronia Stallions Varsity Football team improved their record with a 27-2 victory over Newmarket. The Stallions clung to a precarious 6-2 lead at halftime before the defence started laying the lumber and Quarterback Jamie Cook started making big plays.

Cook had a huge game throwing for 205 yards and three touchdown passes. On two plays, Cook ran around eluding Newmarket defenders for what seemed like an eternity before firing touchdown strikes. Slotback Sam Robertson had two touchdown receptions and wide receiver Jess Tonn had the other major. Kicker Josh MacDuffie added two field goals. On defence, the tone was set by Cornerback Ed Shrubsole who had three physical hits that electrified the Stallions. Linebacker Kyle Plummer led the team with 7 solo tackles and Jess Tonn, Jordan Bodnaruk and Nikola Alves had interceptions. Nose tackle Matt Lauren had 5 tackles and physically dominated the Newmarket offensive line all game. The Stallions next game is this Saturday in Ottawa against the Myers Riders.

The Huronia Stallions Junior Varsity Football team improved to 1-3 on the season with a 31-14 victory over Newmarket. The Stallions were led on offence by Quarterback Tivon Cook who had 250 yards passing and three touchdowns. Receivers, Adam Zuzzino, Jesse Alves and Ryan Gervais were the recipients of Cookā€™s touchdown strikes. Defensive Tackle, Matt Telford led the defence with 6 tackles and 2 quarterback sacks. The Stallions next game is this Saturday in Ottawa against the Myers Riders.

The Huronia Stallions Bantam Football team lost 32-20 to the York-Simcoe Bucs. R.J. Folz put forth an outstanding effort playing the entire game on offence, defence and special teams. The Stallions next game is Sunday July 4th at 1 PM at the Barrie Sports Complex

The Huronia Stallions house league were in action last Friday and are off for the Canada day weekend. Practices resume July 6th and the next set of games at Orilliaā€™s Twin Lakes Secondary School and the Barrie Sports Complex is on July 9th
