Hometown talent, including CFC100, staying in Regina

Regina adds three local commits to their Class of 2018.

CFC100 linebacker Josh White, defensive back Jaxon Ford and receiver Matt Rivers from Campbell Collegiate have had a lot of history together, and now they will write the next chapter of their careers as teammates on the University of Regina Rams.

Accustomed to life in his hometown of Regina, Saskatchewan, CFC100 Josh White saw no reason to leave. He said he committed to the Rams because of the ability to stay home, the team’s environment and the coaching.

“The coaching staff is as good as it could be,” White said. “All (the) coaches have numbers of years under their belt and respect from their players.”

White, who is 6’2, 190lbs, played with the Campbell Tartans (Regina High Schools Athletic Association). He won a city and provincial championship with the team this past season. He also played on Team South Saskatchewan U16 where he won a gold medal. He is a back-to-back Team Saskatchewan U18 team member where he won two silver medals at the Football Canada Cup in 2016 and 2017.

Jaxon Ford

Tartan teammate Jaxon Ford committed on the same day as White. “I chose this school because it was the perfect setup for my family and I,” Ford said. “And, the coaching staff is incredible. A lot of the staff has coached me on many teams. I feel very confident in the coaching staff and the program they provide.”

The 6’0, 185lbs halfback has been playing since he was nine. He played on Team Saskatchewan U16, U17 and twice on the under-18 team. He is a two-time silver medalist with Team Saskatchewan U18. He also won a city and provincial championship with the Tartans. The product of Regina, Saskatchewan, will be studying kinesiology.

After two of his teammates joined the Rams, Matt Rivers signed with the team the following day. While he already knows some players on the roster, he will know a few more his age now. His brother is also taking nursing at the university, and his parents are alumni.

“It’s my hometown team,” Rivers said. “It’s an excellent program with great facilities and great coaches. My experience with the coaching staff through Team Sask is that they are friendly, supporting and knowledgeable. I expect to learn a lot from them.”

Interested in kinesiology and business, Rivers added that he is impressed with the university and its academic support system. He is 6’2, 175lbs.

While Rivers played as a quarterback for the Tartans, he will be playing as a receiver for the Rams. In 2017, he was the Tartans’ MVP, most outstanding offensive player and recipient of the coaches’ award. He also won a city and provincial championship with the team. With last year’s under-18 provincial team, he captured a silver medal. From 2015-2017, he has won a silver medal on Team Saskatchewan at the flag football championships.

“I am grateful for all the support from friends and family,” Rivers said. “And, Head Coach Ryan Hall and the whole Campbell Tartans program.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
