Holland College Hurricanes to play NCAA Div 3 (JV) Husson university eagles

Charlottetown, PE -The Holland College football team will test itself against American competition this fall when the Hurricanes travel to Bangor, Maine, in early October to play the Husson University JV Eagles, Holland College Vice President Michael O’Grady announced today. The game, which will be played according to NCAA rules, promises to be a memorable one for the Hurricanes, who compete in the five-team Atlantic Football League.

“This road trip will raise the profile of our college and our football program, while providing our players with an experience that they will certainly remember among their career highlights,” O’Grady said.

Earlier this year, Holland College signed an articulation agreement with Husson University and the University of Fredericton that allows graduates from the college’s business, management and culinary programs to earn up to three years worth of transfer credit at the American school. The football game, O’Grady says, will help to highlight the broader relationship between the institutions.

David Casavant, Associate Provost at Husson University, agrees.

“The collaboration between Husson University and Holland College is exciting. It results from creative thinking and hard work from neighbors and friends on both sides of our shared border. Husson University looks forward to hosting the Hurricanes in October and to working with Holland College to expand educational opportunities for its students,” he said.

Founded in 1898, Husson University enrols more than 3,000 students from across the United States and around the world. The Bangor campus features exceptional academic and athletic facilities, including the Winkin Sports Complex, where the football game will be played.

The Eagles compete in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference at the NCAA Division III level. The well-established program fields very competitive squads at both the varsity and junior varsity level. The Hurricanes will play the junior varsity Eagles on Sunday, October 2. The rest of the Hurricanes 2011 schedule will be announced next week at the Football Booster Club’s AGM on Thursday, June 9, at 7 p.m., at the Holland College Tourism and Culinary Centre on Sydney Street. All boosters and the general public are invited to attend.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
