Holland College Hurricanes head coach names staff

Wednesday, April 20, 2011. Charlottetown, PE ā€“ Mark MacDougall, the recently appointed head coach of the Holland College Hurricanes Football Club, will introduce his staff of assistant coaches at a team meeting scheduled for Wednesday of next week.

Returning from last year’s coaching staff will be Ben Parsons who will handle offensive coordinator duties. Parsons played fullback at Mount Allison University. Aaron MacIsaac is also back, as line coach. The St. Mary’s University graduate was a provincial all-star in New Brunswick before his CIS playing career. Sean Hickey, a former Vanier Cup MVP and an all-conference signal caller at Mount Allison, will work with the quarterbacks.

Additions to the staff this year include Bernie Tierney, who grew up playing football in Ottawa and has twelve years of coaching experience. He is a Level 2 nationally-certified coach. Tierney will be linebacker coach. Another Ontario native, Scott McEwen, has NCAA, CIS and CJFL playing experience. A former CFL draft pick, McEwen played at St. Francis Xavier University. He and Aaron MacIsaac will share line coaching responsibilities.

Coach MacDougall, who will also handle defensive coordinator duties, indicated that there will be one or two additions to the coaching staff before the team goes into training camp in late August.

“I am very pleased with the staff that we have put together — these gentlemen represent a wealth of football knowledge and experience, and all of them are excited by the chance to give something back to the game as coaches,” MacDougall said.

Returning and prospective players, along with team staff and officials, will have the opportunity to meet the coaches at a team meeting on Wednesday, April 27, at 7 p.m., in the MacKinnon Lecture Theatre at Holland College, Charlottetown Centre.
