Hayden soars over Bisons in eagle victory


Etobicoke eagles visited the brantford bisons at wayne gretzky center in Ontario Minor Football League peewee action on saturday afternoon.

The home team began the game with a bang when #44, Kurtis Loewig returned the opening kick off 90 yards for the touchdown. The convert attempt was blocked by the eagles.

The eagles responded with a score of their own when #5, Donovan Hayden, scored his first touchdown of the game on a 20 yard run. The convert attempt was also unsuccessful making the score 6 to 6 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the eagle offense start to gain momentum as well as their defense begin to figure out the misdirection offense of the bisons.

The bisons went up by six when #28, Jacob Cockerill scored on a 4 yard rumble. The bisons had another big run by cockerill and big catch by #51, Curtis Rich but could not score on that drive. They turned the ball over on downs at 1:50 remaining in the first half. The very next play Hayden ran 100 yards for a touchdown. The 2 point convert by #36, Yanni Taxidis was successful. The bisons did not have any success on their next drive and turned the ball over to the eagles before the half. At 0:14 seconds remaining Hayden scored his 3rd touchdown of the opening half giving the visitors a 20 to 12 half time lead.

The second half saw the eagles extend their lead on four more touchdowns by Hayden, giving him a total of seven on the day and the player of the game. The bisons had a big touchdown catch by #45, Bryan Kushner early in the second quarter. This was as close as the home team got. Final score 46 to 20.
